Microsoft Expands Sustainability Cloud to Simplify ESG Reporting

Microsoft is making waves in the sustainability sector with its latest expansion of the Cloud for Sustainability, designed to streamline ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) reporting for businesses. Originally launched in July 2021, the Cloud for Sustainability was introduced as a powerful tool to help companies record, report, reduce, and replace their emissions using real-time data and action-oriented insights.

With the unveiling of its general availability, Microsoft is upping the ante by integrating this tool with its new Sustainability Manager and unveiling the Project ESG Reporting tool. Addressing the intricacies of ESG reporting, the Project ESG Reporting tool offers businesses customizable templates that adhere to various global standards and frameworks while still in preview. This fresh addition empowers companies to develop, finalize, and endorse reports that align with diverse ESG criteria, streamlining the process and enhancing transparency.

Brandon Potter, Microsoft Cloud for Sustainability's Director, shed light on the hurdles businesses encounter in ESG reporting, notably the absence of global standardization. Potter elaborated. The Project ESG Reporting tool strives to streamline this procedure, enabling companies to recycle templates, collaborate on reports, and guarantee data precision through integrated workflow management functionalities. Noteworthy components of the Project ESG Reporting tool encompass user-friendly templates, workflow management, and options for tailoring the reporting process.

Microsoft's dedication to sustainability is further underscored by the incorporation of features enabling companies to produce alternative emission reports tailored to distinct regulatory standards. These improvements underscore Microsoft's commitment to equip businesses with the necessary tools to reach their sustainability objectives and navigate the ever-changing realm of ESG reporting.
